KATAMARAN Programme – Development of International Study Programmes – Internal Call for Proposals

The University of Warsaw may apply exclusively under Pathway A, which concerns the development of international first-cycle (BA), second-cycle (MA), or long-cycle (integrated MA) study programmes.

Only one application may be submitted under this internal call.

Eligibility criteria for the Applicant:

  • Provision of education at the appropriate level of study (BA, MA, or long-cycle),
  • No negative evaluation from the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA) for the Unit Implementing the Project,
  • A signed letter of intent with a foreign university or research institution with which the joint study programme will be implemented.

Polish Returns NAWA 2025 Programme

NAWA has announced the call for applications for the Polish Returns NAWA 2025 Programme. The aim of the Programme is to support the career development of scientists of Polish origin who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and return to Poland after a period of scientific work abroad. The Programme enables them to be employed at Polish higher education and research institutions and to establish their own research teams.

The Programme assumes that during the implementation of the Project, the Returning Scientist will carry out the research activities outlined in the Application, while simultaneously applying for national and international research grants. This will allow both the Returning Scientist and the Research Team to continue their scientific work in Poland after the Project concludes.

The Programme includes the possibility of choosing one of the following components:

  1. Research component funded by the National Science Centre (NCN)
  2. Application component funded by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR)

Additionally, laureates of the Polish Returns 2025 call will have the opportunity to participate in a competition organized by the Medical Research Agency (ABM).

 Applications must be submitted electronically via the Agency’s system available at: https://programs.nawa.gov.pl The deadline for submission is 15 January 2026 at 15:00:00 (Polish official time). The Application must be submitted by the Returning Scientist on behalf of themselves and the University of Warsaw. The Application must be completed in English. Applications submitted in Polish will not be considered. Attachments must be prepared in the language specified in point 2.8 of the Announcement.

The Programme is open to all scientific disciplines. Representatives of the arts may participate, provided that the activities planned in the Project are of a scientific nature.

Units of the University of Warsaw interested in participating in the Programme are kindly requested to send the following documents to BWZ:

  • A completed and signed application for consent to participate in the project (signed by the Dean) 
  • A printout of the prepared NAWA application or, if the application is not yet ready, the Returning Scientist’s academic CV and project description (after submitting the application in the NAWA system, its final version must be sent to BWZ)
  • A completed and signed application for granting the appropriate power of attorney (signed by the Dean) for the Rector of the University of Warsaw to authorize the Returning Scientist to submit the Application in the NAWA electronic system
  • A completed and initialed power of attorney (signed by the Dean or Vice-Dean) which will be signed by the Rector
  • A completed and signed invitation letter from the inviting person at the UW unit for the Returning Scientist addressed to NAWA

The above documents should be sent electronically to: bwz.nabory.projekty@uw.edu.pl  no later than 7 working days before the planned submission of the application to NAWA.

 

The original authorization will be sent to the inviting unit by internal mail.

„National Component” of the Bekker NAWA Programme

The aim of the National Component is to create conditions for the scientific career development of Bekker NAWA Programme fellows who undertake at least 18-month projects and plan to establish a new, independent research team upon returning to Poland.
Through this component, NAWA provides funding for part of their salary after returning to a Polish higher education and research institution, provided that the institution commits to employing the researcher full-time for at least 12 months. The result will be the formation of independent research teams capable of securing new research grants.
Application period: Continuous recruitment from June 2, 2025, to November 3, 2026, at 15:00 local time (Warsaw).
Applications must be submitted no earlier than 3 months before and no later than 1 month after completing the Bekker NAWA fellowship. Submissions should be made via NAWA’s teleinformatics system.

Internal Call for a Project under the NAWA Programme „Promotion of the Polish Language” 2025

The aim of the Programme is to promote the Polish language related to elements of Polish history and culture by financing undertakings contributing to improving the quality of teaching Polish as a foreign language and its prestige, thus exerting a lasting impact on the image of Poland in the world.

Each university can submit a maximum of 3 projects.

Units of the University of Warsaw interested in participating in the programme are asked to submit a scan of the completed and signed project proposal form to the International Relations Office (IRO).

Deadlines:

  • Submission of projects to the International Relations Office (IRO): June 20, 2025. This deadline is final.
  • Submission of the competition application via the NAWA electronic system: July 31, 2025, by 3:00 PM local time (Warsaw).

Rules and Criteria for Evaluating Project Applications

NAWA Programme „Researchers at risk” – call for applications

NAWA Programme "Researchers at risk" is aimed at researchers who have received international protection in Poland (in the form of refugee status or subsidiary protection) and hold a Residence Card. The programme's goal is to ensure the continuation of research careers for individuals with at least a doctoral degree who are at risk of persecution, violence, or discrimination in their home countries—particularly due to race, gender, religion, political views, or membership in specific social groups. It also supports those threatened by armed conflict, natural disasters, human rights violations, or the lack of academic freedom.

The received funding will provide institutions with resources to pay the employed researchers a full-time salary for a period of two years. Additionally, the programme includes compensation for a designated mentor—an individual assigned to collaborate with and support the employed researcher.

There are no restrictions on the number of applications submitted by the employing institution, as long as each application is made with a different researcher.
Applications should be submitted via the NAWA online system. The recruitment process is ongoing, with applications accepted continuously from April 14, 2025, until December 15, 2025, at 15:00.

The declaration of the absence of public aid, signed with a qualified electronic signature by the Vice-Rector, along with a scanned copy of the authorization, will be sent back via email.

Joint Research Projects

Detailed information is available on the NAWA website in the calls for proposals for each country.

The application for granting consent to participate in the project, signed by the dean or vice-dean, should be submitted to the International Relations Office (IRO UW) at bwz.nabory.projekty@uw.edu.pl no later than 7 business days before the NAWA application deadline.

Additionally, to obtain the authorization from the Rector of UW for submitting an application via the NAWA electronic system, the application must include two documents signed by the dean/head of the primary organizational unit:

  1. The project’s coordinator must be a person holding at least a doctoral degree and employed by the Applicant. It is only permitted to serve as a coordinator in one project per competition.
  2. Applications can be submitted after registering in the NAWA system available on the website. Please create accounts using an email address from the university domain. The application form is located under the "Projects and Applications" tab — select "Submit a new application" and then choose the appropriate competition.
  3. NAWA considers only applications submitted by individuals authorized to represent the University of Warsaw by a personalized authorization issued by the Rector of UW.
  4. The application, along with its attachments, must be prepared in Polish. The only exceptions are the CV of the coordinator from the partner country and the Project summary that forms part of the application (in English).
  5. There is no limit on the number of applications submitted by a single Applicant. However, only one application per research project is allowed.
  6. Communication with the Applicant will be conducted through the Agency's IT system, and the Applicant is obliged to regularly check the status of the submitted application in that system.
  7. The system does not allow an application to be withdrawn — if an incomplete application is accidentally submitted, it cannot be withdrawn or amended. Such applications will not be evaluated in the competition. Before the submission, an application can be removed from the application list without any consequences.

ZAWACKA Programme - offer for outgoing

Students, PhD candidates, academic teachers, or researchers interested in participating in the program are required to submit their applications via the NAWA electronic system specified in the announcement.

The online application must include, among other documents, the nomination form "Zgłoszenie z uczelni" signed by a representative of the International Relations Office (IRO).

To obtain a signature, a clear scan of the nomination form "Zgłoszenie z uczelni", filled out by the applicant and initialed by an authorized person in the unit:

  • students - the head of the educational unit or the mobility coordinator appointed by the head of the educational unit (§ 6, Section 4, Point 2 of the Study Regulations);
  • employees - head of the organizational unit or the mobility coordinator appointed by the dean/head of the organizational unit (§ 60 of the UW Statute);
  • PhD candidates enrolled in doctoral schools - the director of the doctoral school (§ 4, Section 5 of the Doctoral Schools Regulations).

CEEPUS Programme – Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies

The CEEPUS Program is a multilateral cooperation initiative in the field of education among Central European countries, established through a multilateral international agreement.

Program Objective: Supporting academic exchange for education and professional development of students and academic teachers from Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

The Ulam NAWA Programme 2025 - call for applications closed

PROGRAMME ULAM NAWA 2025 - CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The call for applications under the Stanisław Ulam Programme will be conducted from February 10th to May 12th, 2025, until 15:00, according to the official time in Poland.

The procedure for applying for the Ulam Scholarship is described in the programme regulations on the NAWA website.

NAWA annuncement of the call for applications in the Programme no. 8/2025 of February 10, 2025.

The document "The invitation from the Host institution in the fellowship programmes" (attachment to the Announcement), which is an attachment to the application submitted by the candidate by the NAWA electronic system, must be signed by the legal representative of the University of Warsaw – Vice-Rector Sambor Grucza.

Therefore, the completed document, bearing the signature of the internship supervisor at UW and the dean/vice-dean, should be submitted to the International Relations Office (IRO). Please attach the draft application prepared by the candidate or, if the application is not ready, the candidate's academic CV and project description.

These documents should be sent electronically to swietlana.dachno@adm.uw.edu.pl at least 5 working days before the planned submission of the application to NAWA.

The document "Information on the commitments of the host institution" signed by the Rector will then be sent back to you by email.

Programme for institutions „NAWA-EURAXESS Network” - call for applications closed

Considering the fact that an Applicant may submit only one application within the recruitment process, and given the short time remaining until the application deadline – the NAWA application must be submitted by February 18, 2025, by 3:00 PM local time – the order of submissions to the IRO will determine whether a project qualifies for submission to NAWA.

The Program's idea is to create regional networks in individual voivodeships between various institutions of science and higher education, as well as other organizations working to support foreigners.

The Program aims to establish and develop an institutional environment in Polish regions that supports career development and mobility for PhD students, researchers, and academics to enhance competitiveness and strengthen the position of Polish institutions of higher education and science in the international arena. Expected results - the creation of 16 regional NAWA-EURAXESS networks in 16 voivodeships of Poland.

The project implementation period must last 36 months and fall within the timeframe from June 1, 2025, to September 30, 2028.

The maximum requested financial funding is determined for each voivodeship, depending on the number of scientific institutions (s.i.) operating in the region. For the Mazowieckie voivodeship (163 s.i.), this amount is set at PLN 1,200,000.

Strategic Partnerships 2024 NAWA – internal competition concluded

The internal competition is organized because each institution can submit a maximum of two applications for the Strategic Partnerships competition.

The main goal of the Program is to support institutions of higher education and science in developing sustainable solutions for educational, scientific, and implementation cooperation within the framework of strategic international partnerships.

The outcomes of the projects should serve as a foundation for the development of long-term cooperation among the entities forming the Partnership. Projects implemented within the Program must align with the long-term development policy of the applying institution.

PROM Programme – internal call closed

The internal call is organized because each institution may submit only one application for the PROM call.

The purpose of the Program is to: develop the internationalization of higher education and research institutions through short-term scholarship exchanges; enhance the competencies of students, doctoral students, and academic staff from both Poland and abroad through short-term international scholarship exchanges; improve the quality of education by facilitating short-term exchanges of students, doctoral candidates, and academic staff from both Poland and abroad; increase the number of short-term mobilities conducted.

Rules and Criteria for Selection of Project Proposals

NAWA Impress-U Polish-American-Ukrainian research projects - internal call closed

The National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) announce a new support programme for Ukrainian researchers: IMPRESS-U.

NAWA will fund International Supplements projects aimed at expanding existing research initiatives financed by the U.S. NSF with new components and partnerships involving researchers from Ukraine and Poland. A total of 7 million PLN will be allocated for the enhancement of existing projects through international collaboration under the International Supplements scheme, with additional funding provided by the Ministry of Education and Science.

 

Application Process:

International Supplements: The project coordinator from the U.S. submits the main application to NSF. The Polish unit, as part of the team, submits its application to NAWA. The application must be submitted to NAWA within 7 days of submitting the application to NSF, and no later than June 30, 2024.

Applications are accepted continuously, until funding is exhausted.

The total allocation for this program is 7 million PLN, but the Agency reserves the right to adjust the allocation of funds in the Call.

SPINAKER 2024 Programme – internal call closed

The internal call is organized because each institution can submit a maximum of two applications for the SPINAKER programme.

The aim of the programme is to enhance the quality of education by supporting entities in the higher education and research system in creating and implementing intensive international forms of education. It also seeks to increase the attractiveness of Polish universities among students, PhD candidates, and academic staff from abroad by developing programs offered in foreign languages.
